


{"id":23471,"date":"2025-10-27T11:08:07","date_gmt":"2025-10-27T05:38:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=23471"},"modified":"2025-10-28T16:46:44","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T11:16:44","slug":"materiovigilance-programme-of-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/materiovigilance-programme-of-india\/","title":{"rendered":"Materiovigilance Programme of India"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Materiovigilance Programme of India:\u00a0<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It was launched on July 6, 2015 to <strong>monitor the safety<\/strong> of <strong>medical devices<\/strong> in the country.<\/li>\n<li>It aims to <strong>collect data on medical device<\/strong> related adverse events systematically and scientifically analyze them to aid in <strong>regulatory decisions and recommendations<\/strong> on safe use of medical devices.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Objective:<\/strong> To improve Indian <strong>patient safety<\/strong> by monitoring, recording and analysing the root cause of adverse events or risks associated with the use of <strong>medical devices including in-vitro diagnostics <\/strong>by healthcare professionals or patients\/users and suggesting regulatory bodies for appropriate action with the sole intention of improving patient safety.<\/li>\n<li>It is an important program for reporting of adverse events, coordinated analysis etc related to the medical devices including <strong>in-vitro diagnostic devices<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/indian-pharmacopoeia-commission\/\" target=\"_blank\">Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC)<\/a> functions as National Coordination Centre (NCC) since 2018.<\/li>\n<li>It is regulated by the <strong>Central Drugs Standards Control Organization (CDSCO).<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Medical devices consist of electronic equipment, implant, consumables and disposables, surgical instruments and in-vitro diagnostic reagents, among others.<\/li>\n<li>Currently, all medical devices in India are <strong>regulated by the <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/drugs-and-cosmetics-act-1940\/\" target=\"_blank\">Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940<\/a><strong> and Medical Device Rule, 2017.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>At present, India is 80% dependent on imports for medical devices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Nodal Ministry: <\/strong>Ministry Of Health and Family Welfare<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key facts about Drugs Controller General of India<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Drugs Controller General of India is the <strong>head of the department of the CDSCO<\/strong> of the Government of India responsible for approval of licences of specified categories of drugs such as blood and blood products, IV fluids, vaccines and sera in India.<\/li>\n<li>DCGI also sets standards for the manufacturing, sales, import, and distribution of drugs in India.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO)?<\/h3>\n<p>CDSCO is the National Regulatory Authority (NRA) of India for the medical devices industry under the provisions of the Drugs &amp;
