<strong>connectivity project<\/strong> that seeks to develop a seamless infrastructure of <strong>ports, railways, roads, sea lines, and pipelines<\/strong> to enhance trade <strong>among India, the Arabian <\/strong>Peninsula, the Mediterranean region, and Europe.<\/li>\n<li>It was <strong>announced in 2023 on the sidelines of the G20 meeting in New Delhi<\/strong> when a memorandum of understanding (<strong>MoU<\/strong>) was <strong>signed between<\/strong> the <strong>European Union<\/strong> and seven countries, namely <strong>India, the US, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), France, Germany, and Italy.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The IMEC will comprise <strong>two separate corridors<\/strong>, the <strong>eastern corridor connecting India to the Arabian Gulf<\/strong> and the <strong>northern corridor connecting<\/strong> the <strong>Gulf to Europe<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Upon completion, the corridor will have a cost-effective and reliable cross-border railway network, which will be supplemented by the available road transport and maritime routes.<\/li>\n<li>The corridor will include a <strong>shipping route connecting Mumbai and Mundra (Gujarat) with the UAE <\/strong>and a <strong>rail network connecting<\/strong> the <strong>UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan with the Israeli port of Haifa<\/strong> to reach the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Haifa<\/strong> will then be <strong>connected by sea to the port of Piraeus in Greece<\/strong> to eventually be connected to Europe.<\/li>\n<li>In addition, along the corridor, the countries will <strong>also lay the network of electricity grids<\/strong>, <strong>optical fiber cable<\/strong> for digital connectivity, and <strong>pipeline for<\/strong> the transportation of <strong>hydrogen gas<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It intends to increase efficiency, reduce costs, secure regional supply chains, increase trade accessibility, enhance economic cooperation, generate jobs, and lower greenhouse gas emissions.<\/li>\n<li>The corridor will be <strong>supported by the Partnership for Global Infrastructure and Investment (PGII), a US-led
