


{"id":23535,"date":"2024-05-20T07:12:12","date_gmt":"2024-05-20T01:42:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=23535"},"modified":"2025-10-13T11:25:17","modified_gmt":"2025-10-13T05:55:17","slug":"commission-on-crime-prevention-and-criminal-justice-ccpcj","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/commission-on-crime-prevention-and-criminal-justice-ccpcj\/","title":{"rendered":"Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ):<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>CCPCJ is a <strong>commission of<\/strong> the <strong>United Nations Economic and Social Council<\/strong> (ECOSOC).<\/li>\n<li>It acts as the <strong>principal policy making body of<\/strong> the <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/united-nations-principal-organs\/\" target=\"_blank\">United Nations (UN)<\/a> in the fields of <strong>crime prevention and criminal justice<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Membership<\/strong>: The CCPCJ has <strong>40 member states<\/strong> that are <strong>elected by ECOSOC<\/strong> and is chaired by a Bureau.<\/li>\n<li>ECOSOC provided for CCPCJ <strong>mandates and priorities<\/strong> in resolution 1992\/22, which includes the following:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>International action to combat national and transnational crime<\/strong>, such as organized crime, economic crime, and money-laundering<\/li>\n<li><strong>Promoting<\/strong> the <strong>role of criminal law in protecting<\/strong> the <strong>environment<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Crime prevention in urban areas<\/strong>, including juvenile crime and violence<\/li>\n<li><strong>Improving the efficiency<\/strong> and fairness <strong>of criminal justice administration <\/strong>systems<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>CCPCJ also offers Member States a <strong>forum for exchanging expertise<\/strong>, experience, and information in order to <strong>develop nationaland international strategies<\/strong> and to identify priorities for combating crime.<\/li>\n<li>It also acts as <strong>preparatory bodyand<\/strong> as <strong>implementing body for<\/strong> the quinquennial <strong>United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In 2006, the General Assembly adopted resolution 61\/252, which further expanded the mandates of CCPCJ to enable it to function as a g<strong>overning body of the <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/united-nations-office-on-drugs-and-crime-unodc\/\" target=\"_blank\">United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC)<\/a><strong>,<\/strong> and to <strong>approve the budget of<\/strong> the <strong>United Nations Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Fund,<\/strong> which provides resources for technical assistance in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice worldwide.<\/li>\n<li>The Commission <strong>maintains close linkswith<\/strong> the <strong>research institutes belonging to<\/strong> the <strong>UN Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Programme Network<\/strong> (PNI).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The network has been developed to assist the international community in strengthening cooperation in the area of crime prevention and criminal justice.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC)?<\/h3>\n<p>Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations (UN), responsible for the direction and coordination of the economic, social, humanitarian, and cultural activities carried out by the UN.
