This includes <strong>22 pairs of autosomal or somatic chromosomes<\/strong> that are common to both men and women <strong>and one chromosome<\/strong> that <strong>differs according to<\/strong> what <strong>gender<\/strong> a person is (<strong>sex chromosomes<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Each person usually has one pair of sex chromosomes in each cell. <strong>Females<\/strong> typically <strong>have two X chromosomes<\/strong>, while <strong>males<\/strong> typically have <strong>one X and one Y chromosome<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Men inherit<\/strong> the <strong>X chromosome<\/strong> they have <strong>from their mother<\/strong> and the <strong>Y chromosomefrom their father<\/strong>, while <strong>women inherit one X chromosome from the mother<\/strong> and the <strong>other from the father<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>In women,<\/strong> the <strong>X chromosome<\/strong> represents almost <strong>5% of the total DNA,<\/strong> and <strong>in men<\/strong>, who have only one X chromosome, it represents about <strong>2.5% of the total <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/dna\/\" target=\"_blank\">DNA<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Early in the embryonic development of<strong> people with two X chromosomes<\/strong>, <strong>one<\/strong> of the X chromosomes <strong>is randomly and permanently inactivatedin <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/cell-structure-and-organelles\/\" target=\"_blank\">cells<\/a><strong> other than egg cells.<\/strong> This phenomenon is called <strong>X-inactivation or lyonization<\/strong>.\n<ul>\n<li>X-inactivation <strong>ensures<\/strong> that <strong>people with two X chromosomes have only one functional copy of the X chromosome in each cell.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Because X-inactivation is random, normally, the X chromosome inherited from one parent is active in some cells, and the X chromosome inherited from the other parent is active in other cells.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The X chromosome likely <strong>contains 900 to 1,400 genes<\/strong> that provide instructions for making proteins.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Genetic disorders<\/strong> that arise from missing, additional, or malformed copies <strong>of the X chromosome are termed numerical disorders.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Examples include <strong>Klinefelter\u2019s syndrome,<\/strong> where a male has one or more extra copies; <strong>Triple X syndrome<\/strong>, where a female has one extra copy and <strong>Turner syndrome, <\/strong>where a female has one normal X chromosome and one missing or abnormal one.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What&#8217;s an Autoimmune Disease?<\/h3>\n<p>Autoimmune diseases result when your immune system is overactive, causing it to attack and damage your body&#8217;s own tissues.
