{"id":23755,"date":"2024-05-29T08:30:38","date_gmt":"2024-05-29T03:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=23755"},"modified":"2025-10-11T11:22:52","modified_gmt":"2025-10-11T05:52:52","slug":"vivekananda-rock-memorial","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/vivekananda-rock-memorial\/","title":{"rendered":"Vivekananda Rock Memorial"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Vivekananda Rock Memorial:\u00a0<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is <strong>located<\/strong> on a <strong>small island off Kanyakumari<\/strong>, Tamil Nadu.<\/li>\n<li>The memorial <strong>stands on one of the two rocks<\/strong> located about <strong>500 meters off the mainland<\/strong> of Vavathurai.<\/li>\n<li>The rock is <strong>surrounded by the <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/laccadive-sea\/\" target=\"_blank\">Laccadive Sea<\/a><strong>,<\/strong> where the Bay of Bengal, the Indian Ocean, and the Arabian Sea form a confluence.<\/li>\n<li>It was <strong>built in 1970<\/strong> in <strong>honour of <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/swami-vivekananda\/\" target=\"_blank\">Swami Vivekananda<\/a>, who is said to have attained enlightenment on the rock.<\/li>\n<li>It comprises of the <strong>&#8216;Shripada Mandapam&#8217;<\/strong> and the <strong>&#8216;Vivekananda Mandapam&#8217;.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>There is also a <strong>life-sized bronze statue of Swami Vivekananda<\/strong> on the premises.<\/li>\n<li>It is also a memorial for which all State Governments and the Central Government contributed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Who was Swami Vivekananda?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Swami Vivekananda (1863\u20131902), <strong>born Narendranath Datta<\/strong>, was a <strong>Hindu monk<\/strong> and one of the most celebrated <strong>spiritual leaders<\/strong> of India.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>He was the <strong>foremost disciple of Sri Ramakrishna Paramhamsa<\/strong> and a world spokesperson for <strong>Vedanta<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>He was <strong>hailed as a Dhyana Sidha<\/strong>, a <strong>meditation expert<\/strong>, <strong>by<\/strong> his guru, Ramakrishna <strong>Paramhamsa<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>He <strong>attempted to combine Indian spirituality with Western material progress<\/strong>, maintaining that the two supplemented and complemented one another.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>He believed that the <strong>path to self-purification is through helping others<\/strong>. He encouraged people to engage in<strong> selfless service<\/strong> and to work towards the betterment of society.<\/li>\n<li>Through <strong>his teachings on the four yogas<\/strong>, the harmony of religions, the divinity of the soul, and serving humanity as God, Vivekananda gave spiritual aspirants paths to that realization.<\/li>\n<li>Vivekananda <strong>represented Hinduism at <\/strong>the <strong>1893 World\u2019s Parliament of Religions<\/strong> convened during the World\u2019s Columbian Exposition <strong>in Chicago.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>After his first visit to the West, Swami Vivekananda went back to India and <strong>founded the Ramakrishna Order at Belur<\/strong> outside of Kolkata <strong>in 1897.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is Vedanta philosophy?<\/h3>\n<p>Vedanta is a school of philosophy within Hinduism dealing with the nature of reality, one of the six orthodox systems (darshans) of Indian philosophy and the one that forms the basis of most modern schools of Hinduism.
