{"id":23811,"date":"2024-05-31T09:00:01","date_gmt":"2024-05-31T03:30:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=23811"},"modified":"2025-10-07T11:46:50","modified_gmt":"2025-10-07T06:16:50","slug":"cryonics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/cryonics\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Cryonics?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Cryonics:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Cryonics, the practice of <strong>freezing an individual who has died<\/strong>, with the <strong>object of reviving<\/strong> the <strong>individual sometime in the future.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The word cryonics is derived from the Greek kr\u00fdos, meaning \u201cicy cold.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>It is an effort to save lives by <strong>using temperatures so cold<\/strong> that a <strong>person beyond help by today\u2019s medicine<\/strong> can be <strong>preserved for decade<\/strong>s or centuries <strong>until a future medical technology can restore<\/strong> that <strong>person to full health<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>A person that is held in such a state is <strong>called a<\/strong> \u201c<strong>cryopreserved patient\u201d,<\/strong> because Cryonicists (the advocates of cryonics) do not regard the cryopreserved person as really dead.<\/li>\n<li>Cryonic preservation can be <strong>performed only after<\/strong> an <strong>individual has been declared legally dead.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The process is initiated shortly after death, with the <strong>body being packed in ice<\/strong> and shipped to a cryonics facility.<\/li>\n<li>There, the <strong>blood is drained from the body<\/strong> and <strong>replaced with antifreeze and organ-preserving compounds<\/strong> known as <strong>cryoprotective agents.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In this vitrified state, the <strong>body is placed in a chamber filled with liquid nitrogen<\/strong>, where it will theoretically <strong>stay preserved at -196 \u00b0C until scientists<\/strong> are able to <strong>find a way to resuscitate the body<\/strong> in the future.<\/li>\n<li>Currently, there are a few hundred bodies that have been frozen through cryonics.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is Liquid Nitrogen?<\/h3>\n<p>Liquid Nitrogen is an inert, colorless, odorless, noncorrosive, nonflammable, and extremely cold element. It is a cryogenic liquid (Cryogenic liquids are liquefied gases that have a normal boiling point below \u2013130\u00b0F (\u201390\u00b0C).
