{"id":23843,"date":"2024-05-31T01:09:34","date_gmt":"2024-05-30T19:39:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=23843"},"modified":"2025-04-07T05:19:57","modified_gmt":"2025-04-06T23:49:57","slug":"diadromous-fish","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/diadromous-fish\/","title":{"rendered":"Diadromous fish"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Diadromous fish:\u00a0<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>These are those fish species which <strong>migrate between saltwater and freshwater<\/strong> environments.<\/li>\n<li>Some of the <strong>examples for diadromous fish<\/strong>: the allis shad (Alosa alosa), twait shad (Alosa fal- lax), Mediterranean twaite shad (Alosa agone) and the European eel (Anguilla anguilla) etc.<\/li>\n<li>In order to better understand these movements, scientists have classified these migrations into several categories.\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Anadromous fish: <\/strong>These are <strong>born in freshwater<\/strong>, then migrate to the ocean as juveniles where they grow into adults before <strong>migrating back into freshwater to spawn.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Catadromous fish<\/strong>: These are <strong>born in saltwater<\/strong>, then migrate into freshwater as juveniles where they grow into adults before migrating <strong>back into the ocean to spawn.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Amphidromous fish<\/strong>: These are <strong>born in freshwater\/estuaries<\/strong>, then drift into the ocean as larvae before migrating back into freshwater to grow into adults <strong>and spawn.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Potamodromous fish: <\/strong>These are born in upstream freshwater habitats, then migrate downstream (still in freshwater) as juveniles to grow into adults before migrating back upstream to spawn.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Threats:<\/strong> Diadromous fish are <strong>sensitive to anthropogenic pressures<\/strong>. They are subjected to terrestrial, freshwater, and marine pressures such as agricultural and pollutant runoffs, habitat destruction, barriers to migration, fishing, bycatch, and climate change.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What are Invertebrates?<\/h3>\n<p>Invertebrates are characterized by their lack of a backbone or vertebral column. Instead, they have other structural features that support and protect their bodies.
