without disclosing crucial information about the available phenotype data, causing concerns among researchers across India.<\/p>\n<h2>Background<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The project successfully collected\u00a0<strong>blood samples<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>associated phenotype data<\/strong>\u00a0from over\u00a0<strong>20,000 individuals<\/strong>\u00a0belonging to\u00a0<strong>83 population groups<\/strong>, comprising\u00a0<strong>30 tribal<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>53 non-tribal<\/strong>\u00a0populations spread across India.<\/li>\n<li>Preliminary findings based on the genetic data of\u00a0<strong>9,772 individuals<\/strong>\u00a0were published in the journal\u00a0<strong>Nature Genetics<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0<strong>April 8, 2025<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Types of Phenotype Data Collected<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>The collected phenotype data included\u00a0<strong>anthropometric measurements<\/strong>\u00a0such as\u00a0<strong>height<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>weight<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>hip circumference<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>waist circumference<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>blood pressure<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>From the blood samples,\u00a0<strong>complete blood counts<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>biochemical data<\/strong>\u00a0such as\u00a0<strong>glucose levels<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>lipid profiles<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>liver function<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>kidney function tests<\/strong>\u00a0were measured.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>About &#8216;Phenome India&#8217; Project<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The &#8220;Phenome India&#8221; project, officially named<strong>\u00a0Phenome India-CSIR Health Cohort Knowledgebase (PI-CheCK)<\/strong>\u00a0is an initiative launched by the\u00a0<strong>Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR)<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0<strong>December 7, 2023<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The main objective<\/strong>\u00a0of the project is to develop\u00a0<strong>India-specific risk prediction models<\/strong>\u00a0for\u00a0<strong>cardio-metabolic diseases<\/strong>\u00a0including\u00a0<strong>diabetes<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>liver diseases<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>cardiac diseases<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is\u00a0<strong>India\u2019s first-ever pan-India longitudinal health monitoring study<\/strong>\u00a0focused specifically on cardio-metabolic health.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Participants<\/strong>\u00a0include around\u00a0<strong>10,000 individuals<\/strong>\u2014primarily\u00a0<strong>CSIR employees<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>pensioners<\/strong>, and their\u00a0<strong>spouses<\/strong>\u2014from across\u00a0<strong>17 states<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>24 cities<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Collected data<\/strong>\u00a0includes\u00a0<strong>clinical questionnaires<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>lifestyle and dietary habits<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>anthropometric measurements<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>imaging and scanning data<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>extensive biochemical and molecular data<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>This study is\u00a0<strong>crucial<\/strong>\u00a0for understanding how\u00a0<strong>ethnic diversity<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>lifestyle patterns<\/strong>\u00a0unique to India influence the\u00a0<strong>risk<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>incidence<\/strong>\u00a0of cardio-metabolic disorders.<\/li>\n<li>Through this project,\u00a0<strong>CSIR<\/strong>\u00a0is promoting a\u00a0<strong>Predictive, Personalised, Participatory, and Preventive (P4) healthcare model<\/strong>\u00a0suited to\u00a0<strong>Indian genetic and phenotypic profiles<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>&#8216;Phenome India&#8217;
