{"id":24296,"date":"2024-06-19T12:50:46","date_gmt":"2024-06-19T07:20:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=24296"},"modified":"2025-04-07T08:30:25","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T03:00:25","slug":"ophichthus-suryai","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ophichthus-suryai\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Ophichthus Suryai?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Ophichthus Suryai:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>new species of snake eel<\/strong> discovered from <strong>Odisha<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The new species <strong>can be distinguished<\/strong> from its closely allied congeners Ophichthus alleni, Ophichthus zophistius, and Ophichthus altipennis, and other members in this genus by\n<ul>\n<li><strong>having the dorsal fin origin<\/strong> (DFO) <strong>just above<\/strong> or slightly anterior to the <strong>gill opening<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>its <strong>unique vertebral count and teeth patterns<\/strong> consisting of multiple rows on both maxilla and mandible<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What is a Snake eel?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A snake eel is any of numerous <strong>marine fishes<\/strong> in the family Ophichthidae (order Anguilliformes).<\/li>\n<li>The eels are often <strong>mistaken for sea snakes by humans.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Usually, the eels are found in <strong>warm, tropical waters.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Most species <strong>live and hide in material at the bottom of rivers or the sea<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>A snake eel can survive at depths of more than 2,000 feet (around 600 meters), but often live in water much shallower than this.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>size<\/strong> of a snake eels <strong>varies greatly<\/strong>, depending on the species, with some growing as long as 10 feet (about 3 meters).<\/li>\n<li>If the <strong>cross section<\/strong> of a snake eel were examined, it would be <strong>almost circular<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Other features include a <strong>scaleless body, small eyes, <\/strong>and a <strong>pointed snout<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>A snake eel\u2019s <strong>diet<\/strong> consists <strong>mainly of small fish<\/strong>.
