{"id":24335,"date":"2024-06-20T08:23:20","date_gmt":"2024-06-20T02:53:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=24335"},"modified":"2025-10-11T10:45:45","modified_gmt":"2025-10-11T05:15:45","slug":"sustainable-development-report-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/sustainable-development-report-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"Sustainable Development Report 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Sustainable Development Report (SDR):<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It\u00a0<strong>reviews progress made<\/strong>\u00a0each year\u00a0<strong>on the\u00a0<\/strong>Sustainable Development Goals\u00a0<strong>(SDGs) since their adoption by<\/strong>\u00a0the 193\u00a0<strong>UN Member States in 2015<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is annually\u00a0<strong>published by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network<\/strong>\u00a0(SDSN).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Highlights of SDR 2024:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Published on the eve of the UN Summit of the Future, the SDR 2024 recommends a set of key reforms to the UN system to meet the challenges of the 21st century.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Theme<\/strong>: The\u00a0<strong>SDGs and the UN Summit of the Future<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This year\u2019s edition also presents a new index of countries\u2019 support for UN-based multilateralism and discusses long-term pathways to attain sustainable food and land systems.<\/li>\n<li>This year,\u00a0<strong>Finland, Sweden,<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Denmark top the rankings<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Globally,\u00a0<strong>only 16% of<\/strong>\u00a0the\u00a0<strong>SDG targets are on track<\/strong>\u00a0to be achieved by 2030, with the remaining 84% showing limited progress or its reversal.<\/li>\n<li>The pace of progress\u00a0<strong>varies widely across country<\/strong>\u00a0groups.\u00a0<strong>Nordic countries<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>continue to lead<\/strong>\u00a0on SDG achievement, with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/brics\/\" target=\"_blank\">BRICS<\/a><strong>\u00a0demonstrating strong progress<\/strong>\u00a0and poor and\u00a0<strong>vulnerable nations lagging far behind<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Sustainable development remains a long-term investment challenge. Reforming the\u00a0<strong>Global Financial Architecture<\/strong>\u00a0is more\u00a0<strong>urgent than ever.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Global challenges require global cooperation.\u00a0<strong>Barbados ranks<\/strong>\u00a0the\u00a0<strong>highest in its commitment to UN-based multilateralism<\/strong>; the\u00a0<strong>United States ranks last<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>SDG targets related to food and land systems are particularly off-track. The SDR presents\u00a0<strong>new FABLE (Food, Agriculture, Biodiversity, Land, and Energy) pathways<\/strong>\u00a0to support sustainable food and land systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>What is the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN)?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The UN SDSN\u00a0<strong>works under<\/strong>\u00a0the auspices of the\u00a0<strong>UN Secretary-General<\/strong>\u00a0to mobilize the world\u2019s universities, think tanks, and national laboratories for action\u00a0<strong>on the SDGs and the Paris Agreement<\/strong>; empower societies through free online education; and translate scientific evidence and\u00a0<strong>ideas into solutions and accountability.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Established in 2012<\/strong>\u00a0by the former UN Secretary-General, Ban Ki-Moon, and world-renowned economist and professor, Jeffrey Sachs, the SDSN\u00a0<strong>promotes integrated approaches to implement the SDGs and the Paris Agreement<\/strong>, through\u00a0<strong>education, research, policy analysis,\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>global cooperation<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What are Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?<\/h3>\n<p>The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries &#8211; developed and developing &#8211; in a global partnership.
