{"id":24367,"date":"2024-06-21T03:14:48","date_gmt":"2024-06-20T21:44:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=24367"},"modified":"2025-04-07T09:02:25","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T03:32:25","slug":"capsaicin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/capsaicin\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Capsaicin?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Capsaicin<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a naturally-occurring <strong>botanical irritant in chili peppers<\/strong>, synthetically derived for pharmaceutical formulations.<\/li>\n<li>It is most abundantly <strong>found in the \u201cplacenta\u201d<\/strong> (white membrane to which seeds are attached) of some chili peppers \u2014 fruits of <strong>plants of genus Capsicum<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>How does it act in humans?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The chemical <strong>binds to TRPV1<\/strong> receptors in humans\u2019 nose, mouth, skin, and insides. These receptors help in detecting heat (and pain), and are most commonly <strong>activated by a rise in temperature.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>But capsaicin \u2018tricks\u2019 them into reacting, even though there is no actual temperature rise. The brain, thus, believes that the body is on fire, causing the painful, burning sensation associated with consuming chilis.<\/li>\n<li>The body then tries to cool down \u2014 hence the sweating, and the red face (capillaries just below the skin dilate, as blood rushes to the surface of the body, where it can radiate heat away more easily). The runny nose or teary eyes are the body\u2019s attempt at expelling the heat-causing element.
