style=\"font-weight: 400;\">India rose a position to rank 15 among top global destinations for foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2024, despite a marginal dip in inflows at $27.6 billion, according to the UN Trade and Development (UNCTAD)\u2019s World Investment Report 2025.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>About World Investment Report 2025<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an <\/span><b>annual report<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> published by the <\/span><b>UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).<\/b><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It focuses on <\/span><b>trends in foreign direct investment (FDI) worldwide,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> at the <\/span><b>regional and country levels,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and emerging measures to improve its contribution to development.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Highlights of <\/b><b>World Investment Report <\/b><b>2025\u00a0<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Overall, <\/span><b>global FDI fell by 11 percent in 2024<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, marking the <\/span><b>second consecutive year of decline<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and confirming a deepening slowdown in productive capital flows.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Although global FDI rose by 4 percent<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in 2024 to $1.5 trillion, the increase is the <\/span><b>result of,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> among other factors, <\/span><b>volatile financial conduit flows through several European economies,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> which often serve as <\/span><b>transfer points for investments<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><b>When these are excluded, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">global FDI registered an <\/span><b>11% decline.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The report also found that <\/span><b>investment in sectors related to<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the Sustainable Development Goals <\/span><b>(SDGs) in developing countries fell by 25\u201333%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> across infrastructure, renewable energy, water and sanitation, and agrifood systems. <\/span><b>Only the health sector saw growth, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">though from a small base.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>FDI flows to the digital economy grew 14%.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> But <\/span><b>80% of greenfield projects in digital sectors in the Global South <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">went to <\/span><b>just 10 countries,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> leaving most developing nations excluded from the digital transformation.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><b>United States<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> retained its position as the <\/span><b>top FDI destination<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> globally, with inflows rising to $279 billion in 2024 from $233 billion in the previous year.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>China fell to fourth<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> place with a <\/span><b>29 percent decline <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">in FDI inflows, <\/span><b>dropping from the second position <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">it held in 2023.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>FDI in Africa surged 75%, South-East Asia saw record greenfield levels<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and <\/span><b>momentum was seen in India,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the <\/span><b>Gulf, and parts of Latin America.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2024, developing economies of Asia attracted $605 billion in FDI.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Despite a 3% dip in value<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> from the year before, <\/span><b>developing Asia<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> remained the world\u2019s l<\/span><b>eading destination for inward foreign investment;<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> overall in 2024, Asia received<\/span><b> 40% of the world\u2019s total FDI<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>70% of inflows to developing economies.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Within the South Asian<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> region, <\/span><b>India was the top FDI recipient.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Despite a marginal dip in inflows <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at $27.6 billion, <\/span><b>India climbed up to 15th place <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">globally in 2024, from 16th position in 2023 when it received $28.1 billion in FDI.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There was a <\/span><b>notable increase in greenfield project announcements,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> where <\/span><b>India ranked fourth <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with 1,080 greenfield projects announced in 2024.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The country was also <\/span><b>among the top five economies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in terms of <\/span><b>international project finance deals<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, securing 97 such transactions.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">India <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">also <\/span><b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">climbed in the global ranking of FDI outflows<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, moving to the <\/span><b style=\"font-size: inherit;\">18th slot <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">with $24 billion in outward investments \u2014 up from 23rd in 2023, when outflows totalled $14 billion.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align:
