{"id":2442,"date":"2026-06-30T12:52:06","date_gmt":"2026-06-30T07:22:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=2442"},"modified":"2026-06-30T14:08:39","modified_gmt":"2026-06-30T08:38:39","slug":"k-9-vajra-t-howitzers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/k-9-vajra-t-howitzers\/","title":{"rendered":"K9 Vajra-T"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>K9 Vajra-T Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the successful collaboration on the K9 Vajra-T self-propelled howitzer, India and South Korea are set to deepen their defence partnership.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About K9 Vajra-T<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>155 mm, 52-caliber tracked self-propelled artillery system (howitzer).<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is an I<\/span><b>ndian adaptation of <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/south-korea\/\" target=\"_blank\">South Korea<\/a>&#8216;s K9 Thunder<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 155 mm self-propelled howitzer.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>built by Larsen &amp; Toubro with technology transferred from South Korean <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">defence major Hanwha Defense based on its K9 Thunder.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>customised to suit the requirements of the Indian Army<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for operations in varied terrains, including deserts, plains, and high-altitude regions.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>K9 Vajra-T <\/b><b>Features<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has <\/span><b>all-welded steel armour<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> up to 19 mm thick.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is powered by an MTU MT 881 Ka-500 <\/span><b>diesel engine <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">producing 1,000 horsepower.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The<\/span><b> main weapon<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is the<\/span><b> 155mm \/52 calibre gun <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">capable of <\/span><b>firing high-explosive, smoke, and guided projectiles.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The gun weighs 50 tonnes and can fire 47 kg bombs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It has a b<\/span><b>urst rate of fire <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of<\/span><b> three rounds per 15 seconds<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and a maximum rate of fire of six to eight rounds per minute for three minutes.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can <\/span><b>strike enemy targets <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at around <\/span><b>50 kilometres.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can also<\/span><b> turn around at zero radius,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> basically at the same place where it is standing.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The K9 uses a <\/span><b>digital fire control system<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by which it can<\/span><b> fire multiple rounds <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">that can <\/span><b>impact a given area at the same time <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">(this mode of operation is called <\/span><b>Multiple Round Simultaneous Impact, or MRSI).<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>News<\/b><strong>: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theweek.in\/news\/defence\/2026\/06\/29\/k9-vajra-success-sparks-india-south-korea-push-for-new-missile-gun-systems.amp.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">WEEK<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>K9 Vajra-T is a 155 mm, 52-caliber tracked self-propelled artillery system (howitzer).
