Wildlife Sanctuary after nearly 144 years of absence.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Barda Wildlife Sanctuary<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is located in the Barda Hills of <\/span><b>Gujarat<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>near the coastal city of Porbandar.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Spread over an area of roughly 192.31 square kilometers, it was established in 1979.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Known locally as Jam Barda<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, it was <\/span><b>once a private hunting ground<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for the <\/span><b>royal families of Jamnagar and Porbandar.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is surrounded by agricultural fields, wastelands, and forests, and the terrain of Barda is almost hilly.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Rivers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: There are two waterways, the<\/span><b> Bileshvary River<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><b>Joghri River, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and two <\/span><b>dams, Khambala and Fodara.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Tribes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: Ethnic races such a<\/span><b>s Maldharis, Bharvads, Rabaris, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and <\/span><b>Gadhvis <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">live in this region.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Vegetation<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: There are several forest sub-types, such as <\/span><b>southern tropical forest, southern dry mixed deciduous forest,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>northern tropical thorn forest.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Flora<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The area has the <\/span><b>maximum floral diversity in the state<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (650 plant species). <\/span><b>Gorad, Babul<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, Dhav, Rayan, Ber, Jamun, Amli, Dhudhlo, Bamboo, etc.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Medicinal plants<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of great use grow profusely within the forested belt of the sanctuary.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><b>Fauna<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">:\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It shelters species like <\/span><b>leopards, wolves, sambar deer, <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">chinkara, hyenas, and blue bulls (nilgai).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sanctuary is also a paradise for bird watchers, with numerous resident and migratory birds such as eagles, owls, crested serpent eagles, and partridges found here.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The sanctuary is a<\/span><b> key area for the conservation of <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/asiatic-lions\/\" target=\"_blank\">Asiatic Lions<\/a>.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To develop Barda as the second home for the Asiatic lion, the <\/span><b>state government <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">implemented the \u2018<\/span><b>Gir-Barda Project\u2019 in 1979.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the<\/span><b> first fully protected satellite lion habitat in
