{"id":24435,"date":"2024-06-23T05:30:03","date_gmt":"2024-06-23T00:00:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=24435"},"modified":"2025-04-07T09:31:33","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T04:01:33","slug":"about-gas-flaring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/about-gas-flaring\/","title":{"rendered":"About Gas flaring"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Gas flaring:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is the burning of the <strong>natural gas<\/strong> associated with <strong>oil extraction<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The practice has persisted from the beginning of oil production over 160 years ago.<\/li>\n<li>It takes place due to a range of issues, from <strong>market and economic constraints<\/strong>, to a lack of appropriate regulation and political will.<\/li>\n<li>Flaring and venting are a waste of a valuable natural resource that should either be used for productive purposes, such as generating power, or conserved.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Why is gas flared?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Flaring persists to this day because it is a <strong>relatively safe, though wasteful and polluting<\/strong>, method of disposing of the associated gas that comes from oil production.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Impacts on environment<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The flare&#8217;s combustion converts hydrocarbons to carbon dioxide and water, which lessens the climate impact and reduces <strong>the safety concerns of the natural gas<\/strong> on site but also produces nitrogen oxides, or NOx.<\/li>\n<li>NOx\u2014which includes the <strong>highly reactive gases nitric oxide<\/strong> and nitrogen dioxide\u2014directly and indirectly <strong>impacts air quality.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>How to reduce gas flaring?<\/strong> Oil producers can either re-inject associated gas or use it for productive purposes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1:What is Natural Gas?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a mixture of gases which are rich in hydrocarbons. It is a colorless and odorless gas composed of 70-90% methane (CH4).
