{"id":24443,"date":"2024-06-23T05:10:24","date_gmt":"2024-06-22T23:40:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=24443"},"modified":"2025-04-07T09:34:56","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T04:04:56","slug":"international-hydrographic-organisation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/international-hydrographic-organisation\/","title":{"rendered":"International Hydrographic Organisation"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About International Hydrographic Organisation:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an <strong>intergovernmental organization<\/strong> that works to ensure all the world&#8217;s seas, oceans and navigable waters are surveyed and charted.<\/li>\n<li>It was <strong>established in 1921<\/strong>, it coordinates the activities of national hydrographic offices and promotes uniformity in nautical charts and documents.<\/li>\n<li>It issues survey best practices, provides guidelines to maximize the <strong>use of hydrographic survey data<\/strong> and develops hydrographic capabilities in Member States.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Member countries:<\/strong> It has currently <strong>100 Member States<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The IHO Secretariat has been hosted by the Principality of <strong>Monaco.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>India<\/strong> has been an active member of the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) since 1955.\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>Indian Naval Hydrographic Department<\/strong> (INHD), or the Marine Survey of India earlier, was established in 1874 in Kolkata.<\/li>\n<li>It is the nodal agency for hydrographic surveys and has a fleet of indigenously built modern survey ships.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>World Hydrography Day<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>It is celebrated annually on <strong>June 21.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The theme for 2024 is &#8220;Hydrographic Information &#8211; Enhancing Safety, Efficiency and Sustainability in Marine Activities&#8221;.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is Hydrological Status and Outlook System (HydroSOS)?<\/h3>\n<p>It is an important initiative envisioned by the Commission for Hydrology and is now overseen by the WMO Hydrological Assembly.
