{"id":24447,"date":"2024-06-24T09:36:08","date_gmt":"2024-06-24T04:06:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=24447"},"modified":"2025-04-07T09:36:41","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T04:06:41","slug":"kolar-gold-fields-kgf","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kolar-gold-fields-kgf\/","title":{"rendered":"Kolar Gold Fields (KGF)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Kolar Gold Fields (KGF):<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>KGF (once known as \u2018<strong>Little England\u2019<\/strong>) is a <strong>mining area in<\/strong> the Kolar District of <strong>Karnataka<\/strong>, 100 km from Bengaluru.<\/li>\n<li>It is estimated that <strong>gold has been mined<\/strong> in KFG for <strong>over 2000 years<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>KGF\u2019s modern success is generally attributed to <strong>the firm John Taylor &amp; Sons<\/strong>, after John Taylor III <strong>took control <\/strong>of the mines<strong> in 1880andestablished<\/strong> what <strong>was at one time<\/strong> the <strong>deepest and most productive gold mine in the world<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>KGF was the <strong>first Indian city to be electrified<\/strong> in 1902.<\/li>\n<li>At its peak, KGF was home to 30000 mine workers and their families and was a multiethnic community with <strong>experienced miners recruited from around the world<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The mines were <strong>run by the company up until 1956,<\/strong> when they were <strong>taken over by theGovernment of Mysore,<\/strong> who employed John Taylor &amp; Sons as mining consultants.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Although the<strong> annual production in some years<\/strong> was <strong>more than 95 percent of India\u2019sgold output<\/strong>, the mines <strong>declined and finally closed in 2001<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What are Tailings?<\/h3>\n<p>Tailings are the waste materials left after the target mineral is extracted from ore.
