{"id":24479,"date":"2024-06-25T02:44:09","date_gmt":"2024-06-24T21:14:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=24479"},"modified":"2025-04-07T09:50:41","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T04:20:41","slug":"international-sugar-organisation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/international-sugar-organisation\/","title":{"rendered":"International Sugar Organisation"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About International Sugar Organisation:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an <strong>inter-governmental body<\/strong> completely devoted to improving conditions in the world sugar market.<\/li>\n<li>It was established in 1968 and it is also a <strong>UN affiliated body<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It has about 85 countries as members covering almost 90% of sugar production in the World.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mandate:<\/strong> It is mandated to bring major sugar producing, consuming and trading nations together to bring mutual understanding and progressive approach in dealing with issues pertaining to the sugar sector.<\/li>\n<li>It has also been working on biofuels, especially ethanol as sugarcane is the second major feedstock for ethanol production in the world.<\/li>\n<li>The ISO exists to administer the internationally negotiated 1992 <strong>International Sugar Agreement <\/strong>(ISA), the objectives of which are:\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li>To ensure enhanced international cooperation in connection with world sugar matters and related issues.<\/li>\n<li>To provide a forum for intergovernmental consultations on sugar and on ways to improve the world sugar economy.<\/li>\n<li>To facilitate trade by collecting and providing information on the world sugar market and other sweeteners.<\/li>\n<li>To encourage increased demand for sugar, particularly for non-traditional uses.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Headquarters:<\/strong> London<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Sugar industry in India<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sugar industry is an important <strong>agro-based industry<\/strong> that impacts rural livelihood of about 50 million sugarcane farmers and around 5 lakh workers directly employed in sugar mills.<\/li>\n<li>India is the <strong>largest consumer<\/strong> and <strong>second largest producer<\/strong> of sugar in the world with about 15 per cent share in global sugar consumption and about 20 per cent in production.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Brazil is the top sugar producer<\/strong> in the world.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is Molasses?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a syrup remaining after sugar is crystallized out of cane or beet juice.
