Later it came under the rule of the <strong>Gajapati Kingdom<\/strong> during the medieval period, followed by the Eastern <strong>Chalukyas of Vengi<\/strong>. The area was a part of the Kakatiya and Vijayanagara empires as well.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Buddhist sites (Dantapuri and Salihundam)<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Salihundam has four <strong>stupas, relic caskets, sculptures of Buddhist deities<\/strong> Mareechi and Tara.<\/li>\n<li>All the remnants were believed to be built between 2nd century BC and 12th century AD.<\/li>\n<li>It is believed that Buddhism spread to Sumatra and other far-eastern countries from here.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Jainism sites :<\/strong> Tangamayyakonda and Rottavalasa villages.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Famous temples of Srikakulam<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Arasavalli:<\/strong> The Sri Suryanarayana Swamy Temple, <strong>dedicated to the sun<\/strong> god, located in Arasavalli, is one of the two temples of its kind, the other being the most popular and magnificent Konark Sun Temple in Odisha.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Srimukhalingam:<\/strong> This temple, built in the <strong>Kalinga architectural style<\/strong>, is located by the <strong>Vamsadhara River<\/strong> and is dedicated to lord Srimukha Lingeswara.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is the Stupa?<\/h3>\n<p>The stupa is a symbol of the Buddha&#8217;s enlightenment and his teachings.
