{"id":24609,"date":"2024-07-30T02:02:40","date_gmt":"2024-07-29T20:32:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=24609"},"modified":"2025-10-14T11:09:31","modified_gmt":"2025-10-14T05:39:31","slug":"what-is-oropouche-fever","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-oropouche-fever\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Oropouche Fever?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Oropouche fever:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is an emerging <strong>zoonotic arboviral disease<\/strong> caused by the <strong>Oropouche Virus<\/strong> (OROV).\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It was <strong>first discovered<\/strong> in <strong>Trinidad<\/strong> and Tobago in 1955.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Transmission<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is spread to humans through the <strong>bite of an infected midge<\/strong> (often through the bite of the <strong>Culicoides paraensis midge<\/strong>) or mosquito.<\/li>\n<li>Factors such as urbanization, deforestation, and climate change contribute to the proliferation of its vector, escalating the risk of transmission.<\/li>\n<li>There is <strong>no evidence of human-to-human transmission<\/strong> of the disease \u2014 to date.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Symptoms<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Symptoms of the disease are <strong>similar to dengue<\/strong> and typically start between four and eight days after the bite.<\/li>\n<li>The onset is sudden, and symptoms usually include <strong>fever, headaches, pain, chills, joint stiffness<\/strong> and sometimes nausea and vomiting.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Treatment<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>There are <strong>no vaccines<\/strong> and specific treatment for Oropouche fever.<\/li>\n<li>Medical care aims to control the symptoms and help with recovery.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What are Viruses?<\/h3>\n<p>They are non-cellular entities with genetic material enclosed in a protein coat called capsid. The viral genome is usually either RNA or DNA. Outside the host, viruses remain inert.
