


{"id":24613,"date":"2024-06-30T11:53:19","date_gmt":"2024-06-30T06:23:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=24613"},"modified":"2025-04-07T10:47:54","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T05:17:54","slug":"what-is-saubhagya-scheme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-saubhagya-scheme\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Saubhagya Scheme?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Saubhagya Scheme:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>The Government of India launched <strong>Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana<\/strong> (SAUBHAGYA) in October, 2017<\/li>\n<li><strong>Objective<\/strong>: Achieving <strong>universal household electrification<\/strong>, by providing <strong>electricity connections to<\/strong> all un<strong>-electrified households in rural areas<\/strong> and all <strong>poor households in urban areas i<\/strong>n the country.<\/li>\n<li>Under the Saubhagaya scheme, <strong>LED bulbs, wire, holders, switches,<\/strong> etc are to be provided to BPL families <strong>free of cost.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Salient features<\/strong> of the scheme were:\n<ul>\n<li>Providing <strong>last-mile connectivity and electricity connections to all un-electrified households in rural areas.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Providing <strong>Solar Photo Voltaic (SPV)<\/strong>-based standalone <strong>systems for un-electrified household<\/strong>s located <strong>in remote and inaccessible villages<\/strong> \/ habitations <strong>where grid extension is not feasible <\/strong>or cost effective.<\/li>\n<li>Providing <strong>last mile connectivity and electricity connections to all <\/strong>remaining economically poor un-electrified households in urban areas. <strong>Non-poor urban households are excluded<\/strong> from this scheme.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>In the rural areas<\/strong>, <strong>families other than BPL<\/strong> families <strong>electricity connection<\/strong> has to be provided <strong>for Rs. 500<\/strong>. The consumer has to pay the amount in 10 equal installments of Rs. 50 in each bill, in the urban areas, the <strong>BPL families<\/strong> will be provided <strong>free power connection<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is a provision that <strong>families of rural areas<\/strong>, <strong>which <\/strong>are not possible to issue electrical <strong>assembliesthrough grid supply<\/strong>, have to be <strong>published through solar energ<\/strong>y.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rural Electrification Corporation (REC)<\/strong> has been designated as its <strong>nodal agency<\/strong> for the Saubhagya scheme.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>beneficiaries<\/strong> for free electricity connections will be <strong>identified using Socio Economic and Caste Census (SECC)<\/strong> 2011 data.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is Rural Electrification Corporation (REC)?<\/h3>\n<p>Rural Electrification Corp is a state owned company under the Ministry of Power. Its purpose is to finance the development of power generation and distribution across India.
