{"id":24636,"date":"2025-10-27T04:08:36","date_gmt":"2025-10-26T22:38:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=24636"},"modified":"2025-10-28T13:37:50","modified_gmt":"2025-10-28T08:07:50","slug":"nova-explosion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/nova-explosion\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Nova Explosion?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Nova Explosion:\u00a0<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is the dramatic <strong>instance of a star exploding<\/strong> as it interacts with another, nearby star.<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s a one of many, repeated moments during the long, <strong>slow, death of two neighboring stars<\/strong> in the same system.<\/li>\n<li>Astronomers are waiting for the fiery explosion of <strong>T Coronae Borealis<\/strong>, also dubbed the \u201cBlaze Star\u201d and known to astronomers as \u201c<strong>T CrB\u201d.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>For T CrB, this nova event happens roughly <strong>every 80 years<\/strong> \u2014 it&#8217;s like Halley\u2019s Comet event every 76 years \u2014 so, astronomers call T CrB a \u201c<strong>recurrent\u201d nova.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>They believe T CrB\u2019s prior eruptions were observed as long ago was December 1787 and even in October 1217 AD.<\/li>\n<li>When T CrB erupts, its luminosity will increase dramatically, making it <strong>visible to the naked eye for several days.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Process<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The system contains two stars \u2014 a <strong>white dwarf and a red giant.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/white-dwarf\/\" target=\"_blank\">white dwarf<\/a> is an incredibly dense remnant of a once larger star. It\u2019s about the size of planet Earth but with the same mass as our sun.<\/li>\n<li>Its neighbor, the red giant, is in its <strong>final years of existence<\/strong> and is slowly being stripped of hydrogen by the gravitational pull of the denser white dwarf.<\/li>\n<li>This star \u201ccannibalism\u201d causes a <strong>tremendous buildup of pressure<\/strong> and heat, which eventually triggers a huge thermonuclear explosion.<\/li>\n<li>The explosion doesn\u2019t completely destroy the stars, however, and so this event repeats over time. It can <strong>carry on for hundreds of thousands of years.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Different nova events have <strong>different cycles,<\/strong> ranging from a few years to hundreds of thousands of years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is a white dwarf ?<\/h3>\n<p>It is the stellar core left behind after a dying star has exhausted its nuclear fuel and expelled its outer layers to form a planetary nebula.
