{"id":24664,"date":"2025-11-08T12:32:42","date_gmt":"2025-11-08T07:02:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=24664"},"modified":"2025-11-10T12:31:28","modified_gmt":"2025-11-10T07:01:28","slug":"project-76","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/project-76\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Project-76?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Project-76:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Under Project 76, the <strong>Warship Design Bureau of the Indian Navy<\/strong> is working on designing and <strong>developing the country\u2019s first indigenously conventional diesel-electric submarine<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The Indian Navy wants to <strong>build 12 submarines<\/strong> under Project 76.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Envisioned as <strong>air-independent propulsion (AIP)-equipped<\/strong> diesel-electric attack submarines, these submarines, expected to have a <strong>submerged displacement of 3,000 tons<\/strong>, represent a leap beyond their foreign-designed predecessors like Project-751 (India) and Project-75 submarines.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It <strong>aims to succeed the renowned Sindhughosh (Kilo) class<\/strong>, emphasizing the Navy\u2019s commitment to maintaining a robust 3,000-ton class of submarines.<\/li>\n<li>It is expected to feature some of the most advance features such as, <strong>indigenous Weapon Control system and Lithium-ion batteries.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It represents a pivotal milestone in India\u2019s pursuit of maritime supremacy, <strong>amalgamating <\/strong>top-tier <strong>French technology from <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/upsc-exam\/project-75-india\/\" target=\"_blank\">Project 75<\/a> <strong>and<\/strong> the expertise of <strong>German\/Spanish collaboration from Project 751 (India).\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The objective is to initiate the construction of the prototype by 2028.<\/li>\n<li>This undertaking holds immense significance for India\u2019s submarine-building capabilities, aiming to <strong>reduce reliance on foreign Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) for submarine design.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)?<\/h3>\n<p>DRDO is the R&amp;D wing of Ministry of Defence, Govt of India, with a vision to empower India with cutting-edge defence technologies and a mission to achieve self-reliance in critical defence technologies and systems, while equipping our armed forces with state-of-the-art weapon systems and equipment in accordance with requirements laid down by the three Services.
