


{"id":24798,"date":"2024-07-06T06:51:18","date_gmt":"2024-07-06T01:21:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=24798"},"modified":"2025-04-07T13:16:44","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T07:46:44","slug":"kalamkari","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/kalamkari\/","title":{"rendered":"Kalamkari"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Kalamkari:\u00a0<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a highly popular form of <strong>hand-painted or block-printed<\/strong> cotton textile and paintings, practised in <strong>Andhra Pradesh.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Kalamkari came up as a textile tradition during the reign of <strong>Qutb Shahis at Golconda<\/strong> in the 16-17th century.<\/li>\n<li>The art form <strong>originated in Tilang,<\/strong> the region between what is present-day Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.<\/li>\n<li>\u201cThe word \u2018Kalam\u2019 meant pen, while \u2018Kari\u2019 meant craftsmanship.<\/li>\n<li>There are two distinct styles of Kalamkari &#8211; <strong>Srikalahasti and the Pedana style Kalamkari<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Pedana style Kalamkari<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is also known as <strong>Machilipatnam style<\/strong> which involves vegetable dyed block-painting of a fabric.<\/li>\n<li>The artist prints the outlines as well as the main features of his designs with <strong>hand-carved wooden blocks.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is Persian in character because of the patronage and proximity to the <strong>Mughals and the Golkonda Sultanate.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The traditional block prints in this art largely use <strong>motifs<\/strong> such as interlacing patterns of leaves and flowers, the cartwheel, different forms of the lotus flower etc.<\/li>\n<li>This style has received the Geographical<strong> Indications tag.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Srikalahasti\u2019s style<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Srikalahasti\u2019s style involves using a <strong>traditional pen<\/strong> with a brush to draw the designs.<\/li>\n<li>The Srikalahasti artisans restricted themselves to making a <strong>hand-painted cloth<\/strong> that was <strong>primarily used in temples<\/strong>, to either hang it behind the deity or on a chariot.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Theme:<\/strong> Mythological figures became the theme of the art that originated in the temple town.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is the Geographical Indication (GI) tag?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin.
