{"id":24814,"date":"2024-07-06T11:13:27","date_gmt":"2024-07-06T05:43:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=24814"},"modified":"2025-04-07T13:23:56","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T07:53:56","slug":"aphelion","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/aphelion\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Aphelion?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Aphelion:\u00a0<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is the point of the <strong>Earth\u2019s orbit<\/strong> that is <strong>farthest away from the Sun<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It always happens in early July, about two weeks after the June solstice.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Why does it occur? <\/strong>Earth has an aphelion as a result of its <strong>orbit being elliptical<\/strong>, rather than circular.<\/li>\n<li>At aphelion, Earth\u2019s distance from the Sun is <strong>about 152.1 million km.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Six months later, in early January, Earth reaches <strong>perihelion<\/strong> \u2014 the point at which it is closest to the Sun. At perihelion, the distance between Earth and the Sun is roughly 147.1 million km.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Does aphelion affect temperatures on Earth?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We <strong>get 7% lesssunlight<\/strong> at aphelion compared to what we are exposed to at perihelion, leading to slightly milder summers and winters in the <strong>Northern Hemisphere.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>But this effect is offset by Earth\u2019s <strong>tilt on its axis<\/strong> \u2014 at different points along its orbit the hemispheres slant either toward or away from the Sun.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is perihelion?<\/h3>\n<p>The term &#8220;perihelion&#8221; refers to the point in the orbit of a planet or other astronomical body, at which it is closest to the sun.
