At perihelion, the distance between Earth and the Sun is roughly 147.1 million km.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Does aphelion affect temperatures on Earth?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>We <strong>get 7% lesssunlight<\/strong> at aphelion compared to what we are exposed to at perihelion, leading to slightly milder summers and winters in the <strong>Northern Hemisphere.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>But this effect is offset by Earth\u2019s <strong>tilt on its axis<\/strong> \u2014 at different points along its orbit the hemispheres slant either toward or away from the Sun.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is perihelion?<\/h3>\n<p>The term &#8220;perihelion&#8221; refers to the point in the orbit of a planet or other astronomical body, at which it is closest to the sun.
