{"id":24842,"date":"2024-07-07T06:46:28","date_gmt":"2024-07-07T01:16:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=24842"},"modified":"2025-04-07T13:36:00","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T08:06:00","slug":"about-zorawar-light-tank","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/about-zorawar-light-tank\/","title":{"rendered":"About Zorawar Light Tank"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Zorawar Light Tank:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is <strong>an indigenously designed<\/strong> and developed Light Tank.<\/li>\n<li>It was jointly developed by the <strong>Defence Research and Development Organisation<\/strong> (DRDO) along with Larsen &amp; Toubro (L&amp;T) as the lead integrator.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It was named after a military general, <strong>Zorawar Singh Kahluria<\/strong>, who had served under Jammu\u2019s Raja Gulab Singh in the 19th Century.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Features<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is weighing a maximum<strong> 25 tonnes, is<\/strong> a key requirement of the light tank which ensures it can be transported by air.<\/li>\n<li>The tank will be able to <strong>fire at high angles<\/strong> of elevation and perform the role of limited artillery and is an agile weapon platform.<\/li>\n<li>It is designed to operate in <strong>varying terrain<\/strong>, from high-altitude areas and marginal terrains to island territories.<\/li>\n<li>It will be equipped with all <strong>the modern technologies<\/strong>, such as Artificial Intelligence, Drone Integration, a high degree of situational awareness, and amphibious operation capability.<\/li>\n<li>Unique about this tank is the weight as well as the combination of the fundamental parameters of a tank, which is <strong>the fire, power, mobility and protection.<\/strong> All three are optimized in such a way that the weight is also maintained.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It is expected to be inducted into the Indian Army by the year 2027 after all trials.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)?<\/h3>\n<p>It was formed in 1958 by merging the then-existing Technical Development Establishment (TDEs) of the Indian Army and the Directorate of Technical Development and Production (DTDP) with the Defence Science Organisation (DSO).
