{"id":24846,"date":"2024-07-07T09:42:19","date_gmt":"2024-07-07T04:12:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=24846"},"modified":"2025-04-07T13:37:51","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T08:07:51","slug":"peoples-biodiversity-register","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/peoples-biodiversity-register\/","title":{"rendered":"People\u2019s Biodiversity Register"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About People\u2019s Biodiversity Register:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It serves as a <strong>comprehensive record<\/strong> of various aspects of <strong>biodiversity,<\/strong> including the <strong>conservation of habitats<\/strong>, preservation of <strong>land races<\/strong>, domesticated stocks and breeds of animals, micro-organisms, and the accumulation of knowledge related to the area&#8217;s biological diversity.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Biological Diversity Act (2002)mandates<\/strong> development of <strong>Peoples\u2019 Biodiversity Registers (PBRs)<\/strong> at local level to document as well as safe guard bioresources and associated knowledge.\n<ul>\n<li>As per the Biological Diversity Act 2002, <strong>Biodiversity Management Committees<\/strong> (BMCs) are created for \u201cpromoting conservation, sustainable use and documentation of biological diversity\u201d by local bodies across the country.<\/li>\n<li>BMCs have been <strong>constituted by the local bodies<\/strong> in the States and Union Territories and are entrusted with preparation of the PBRs in consultation with local communities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It will play a crucial role in <strong>conservation, sustainable resource utilisation<\/strong>, and protection of traditional knowledge.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Significance of PBR:<\/strong> It will help local bodies in preparing various projects in agriculture, drinking water, and waste management, among other sectors, with a focus on biodiversity conservation and equitable sharing of benefits.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What are microorganisms?<\/h3>\n<p>A microorganism is defined as a living thing that is so small it must be viewed with a microscope.
