It is estimated that Bihar accounts for more than\u00a0<strong>80 percent of total Makhana<\/strong>\u00a0production in the country.<\/li>\n<li>Makhana is a product\u00a0<strong>approved under<\/strong>\u00a0the Union government\u2019s\u00a0<strong>One District One Product scheme,<\/strong>\u00a0under which subsidies are provided to food processors for branding, marketing, and developing infrastructure.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Benefits of Makhana<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a kind of hydrophyte used\u00a0<strong>both as drug and food<\/strong>\u00a0which exhibits much application and development prospect in the fields of medicine, food and economy.<\/li>\n<li>Makhana is the seed of a cash aquatic crop, which was popularly used as herb and food in China. Makhana possessed high\u00a0<strong>nutritional value<\/strong>\u00a0and many\u00a0<strong>medical and health protection effects.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is One District One Product scheme?<\/h3>\n<p>\u00a0It was launched by the Ministry of Food Processing Industries, to help districts reach their full potential, foster economic and socio-cultural growth, and create employment opportunities, especially, in rural areas.
