{"id":25029,"date":"2024-07-14T01:48:53","date_gmt":"2024-07-13T20:18:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=25029"},"modified":"2025-04-07T14:58:25","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T09:28:25","slug":"changthang-wildlife-sanctuary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/changthang-wildlife-sanctuary\/","title":{"rendered":"Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Changthang Wildlife Sanctuary:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is located in the Ladakhi <strong>Changthang plateau<\/strong> in the Leh district of Jammu and Kashmir.<\/li>\n<li>It covers an area of almost 1,600 sq. km and is home to the highest altitude water lakes, namely, <strong>Tso Moriri<\/strong> (which also happens to be the highest lake on earth), <strong>Pangong Tso and Tso Kar.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The Changthang region is inhabited by <strong>nomadic pastoral communities<\/strong>, primarily the <strong>Changpa tribe,<\/strong> who lead a traditional way of life herding yaks, goats, and sheep across the vast grasslands.<\/li>\n<li>This region is steeped in Tibetan Buddhist culture and heritage.<\/li>\n<li>It includes one of the <strong>world&#8217;s highest villages, Korzok Village,<\/strong> which attracts tourists to the <strong>Korzok Monastery.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Fauna: <\/strong>Tibetan wolf, wild yak, bharal, brown bear and the mormot that seems to be present everywhere.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Flora: <\/strong>It is home to almost 200 species of wild plants that grow in the higher pastures and are food for the animals inside the sanctuary.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2>Q1:Who are Changpas?<\/h2>\n<p>They are semi-nomadic people found mainly in the Changtang plateau of southeastern Ladakh. A smaller number resides in the western regions of the Tibet Autonomous Region in China.
