{"id":25037,"date":"2024-07-15T12:27:19","date_gmt":"2024-07-15T06:57:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=25037"},"modified":"2025-04-07T15:01:47","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T09:31:47","slug":"bagmati-river","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/bagmati-river\/","title":{"rendered":"Bagmati River"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Bagmati River:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a river in <strong>south-central Nepal<\/strong> and northern <strong>Bihar state<\/strong>, India.<\/li>\n<li>It is considered holy by both Hindus and Buddhists.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Course<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>It <strong>originates from<\/strong> the Bagdwar area in the <strong>Shivapuri Hills<\/strong>, located in the <strong>northwestern part of Kathmandu Valley<\/strong>, central Nepal, at an elevation of around 2,690 metres (8825 feet) above sea level.<\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>fed by springs and monsoon rainfall<\/strong> and a <strong>number of tributaries<\/strong> as it flows down from the Kathmandu valley floor and passes through the valley at Chovar.<\/li>\n<li>It <strong>flows southward through the Shivalik Range<\/strong>, the southernmost range of the Himalayas.<\/li>\n<li>It <strong>continues across<\/strong> the <strong>plains of Tarai into Bihar<\/strong> and then flows southeastward to <strong>enter the Burhi<\/strong> (\u201cOld\u201d) <strong>Gandak River<\/strong> after a course of <strong>225 miles (360 km).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The basin <strong>transacts three distinct latitudinal physiographic zones (Mountain, Siwalik, and Terai)<\/strong> of the <strong>Nepal Himalayas.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Temples: <\/strong>The banks of this holy river <strong>shelter various temples.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>temple of Pashupatinath <\/strong>(a <strong>UNESCO World Heritage<\/strong> Site) is nestled on an outcrop above the river north of Kathmandu. It is regarded as one of the holy places of Hinduism.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Gokarneswor temple,<\/strong> located in the north of the Kathmandu Valley, is also an important holy shrine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is the Shivalik Range?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a sub-Himalayan range of the northern Indian subcontinent. It extends west-northwestward for more than 1,000 miles (1,600 km) from the Tista River in Sikkim state, northeastern India, through Nepal, across northwestern India, and into northern Pakistan.
