the icy waters of the Davis Strait, the body of water that separates Canada\u2019s Baffin Island from Greenland.<\/p>\n<h2>About Davis Strait Proto-Microcontinent<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a newly discovered\u00a0<strong>submerged microcontinent\u00a0<\/strong>located around the<strong>\u00a0Davis Strait,<\/strong>\u00a0a large stretch of water\u00a0<strong>located between Canada\u2019s Baffin Island and Greenland.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It has been named the Davis Strait proto-microcontinent since it\u00a0<strong>formed owing to the tectonic evolution of the Davis Strait.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The strait was formed millions of years ago when the tectonic plates between the two islands shifted, reconfiguring the Earth\u2019s crust.<\/li>\n<li>This resulted in the formation of a thick continental crust in the ocean, which has now been declared a newly discovered primitive microcontinent.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>microcontinent is 19\u201324 km thick thinned continental crust<\/strong>\u00a0and is surrounded by two narrow bands of thin (15\u201317 km) continental crust.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>This\u00a0<strong>crust separates it from mainland
