{"id":2538,"date":"2023-02-02T07:42:11","date_gmt":"2023-02-02T02:12:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=2538"},"modified":"2025-03-25T22:25:21","modified_gmt":"2025-03-25T16:55:21","slug":"what-are-lab-grown-diamonds","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-are-lab-grown-diamonds\/","title":{"rendered":"What are Lab-grown diamonds?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Lab-grown diamonds:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Lab-grown diamonds are diamonds that are produced <strong>using specific technology<\/strong> which mimics the geological processes that grow natural diamonds.<\/li>\n<li>The diamond simulants such as Moissanite, Cubic Zirconia (CZ), White Sapphire, YAG, and others are used to make them look like natural diamonds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>How are LGDs produced?<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>There are multiple ways in which LGDs can be produced.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0<strong>High pressure, high temperature\u201d (HPHT) method<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It is the most common and cheapest method.<\/li>\n<li>In this method, extremely <strong>heavy presses<\/strong> that can produce up to 730,000 psi of pressure under <strong>extremely high temperatures<\/strong> of at least 1500 celsius are applied.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Usually, <strong>graphite<\/strong> is used as the \u201c<strong>diamond seed\u201d<\/strong> and when subjected to these extreme conditions, the relatively inexpensive form of carbon turns into one of the most expensive carbon forms.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Chemical Vapor Deposition<\/strong> (CVD) and explosive formation create what is known as detonation nanodiamonds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Application of Lab-grown diamonds<strong>:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Used for <strong>industrial purposes<\/strong>, in machines and tools and their hardness and extra strength make them ideal for use as cutters.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Pure synthetic diamonds are used in <strong>electronics <\/strong>as a heat spreader for high-power laser diodes, laser arrays and high-power transistors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1) What is Graphite?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a naturally occurring form of crystalline carbon which is found in metamorphic and igneous rocks.
