Badrinath<\/strong>), the <strong>four mostrevered Hindu pilgrimages<\/strong> in the Himalayas.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It is situated at an altitude of 3,293 metres (10,804 ft) in the <strong>Garhwal Himalayas<\/strong> in District Uttarkashi, <strong>Uttarakhand<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>surrounded by mountains<\/strong> on all sides and lies in <strong>close proximity of the Indo-China border.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/key-facts-about-yamuna-river\/\" target=\"_blank\">River Yamuna<\/a>, the second most sacred river of India after the Ganges, <strong>originates in Yamunotri.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>small mountain hamlet<\/strong>, with the <strong>Yamunotri Temple at its centre,<\/strong> is the <strong>commencing point of the Char Dham Yatra<\/strong> pilgrimage, which proceeds from Yamunotri to Gangotri and finally to Kedarnath and Badrinath.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Lodged in a narrow gorge, close to the source of the Yamuna, the <strong>Yamunotri Temple<\/strong> is <strong>dedicated to Yamuna.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Key Facts about Yamuna River:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Yamuna River (also known as <strong>Jumna<\/strong>), is the major <strong>tributary of the Ganges River.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Origin<\/strong>: It rises in the <strong>high Himalaya, in the Yamunotri Glacier,<\/strong> at the height of 4,421 meters.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Course<\/strong>:\u00a0\n<ul>\n<li>The 1,376 km long Yamuna <strong>flows solely through India<\/strong>, crossing three states: <strong>Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>After rising in the high Himalayas, it flows in a <strong>southerly direction swiftly through<\/strong> the <strong>Himalayan foothills<\/strong> and, <strong>exiting Uttarakhand, on to the Indo-Gangetic Plain,along<\/strong> the <strong>border between Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana<\/strong> state to the west.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Eastern and Western Yamuna canals<\/strong> are fed from the river at that point.<\/li>\n<li>The Yamuna then <strong>passes Delhi<\/strong>, where it <strong>feeds the Agra Canal.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>South of Delhi, and now wholly within Uttar Pradesh, it turns southeastward.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Near Prayagraj<\/strong> (Allahabad), after a course of about 855 miles (1,376 km), the Yamuna <strong>joins the Ganges River.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The confluence of the two rivers is an especially sacred place to Hindus and is the <strong>site of <\/strong>annual festivals as well as the <strong>Kumbh Mela<\/strong>, which is held every 12 years.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tributaries:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Near Dehradun<\/strong>, the capital city of Uttarakhand, the Yamuna is <strong>joined by<\/strong> its <strong>biggest tributary,<\/strong> the <strong>Tons River.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>Chambal River i<\/strong>s Yamuna\u2019s biggest tributary on the right.<\/li>\n<li>Other important tributaries of the Yamuna include the <strong>Hindon, Sarda, and Giri <\/strong>rivers on the right and <strong>Betwa and
