{"id":25415,"date":"2024-10-04T09:17:33","date_gmt":"2024-10-04T03:47:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=25415"},"modified":"2025-10-07T12:33:29","modified_gmt":"2025-10-07T07:03:29","slug":"growth-india-telescope","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/growth-india-telescope\/","title":{"rendered":"GROWTH-India Telescope"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About GROWTH-India Telescope:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is India&#8217;s first fully\u00a0<strong>robotic optical research telescope<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The telescope&#8217;s primary mission is to\u00a0<strong>observe explosive transients<\/strong>\u00a0and variable sources, including\u00a0<strong>near-Earth asteroids.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Location:<\/strong>\u00a0The telescope is located at the Indian Astronomical Observatory site at\u00a0<strong>Hanle, Ladakh.<\/strong>\u00a0Situated at 4500 meters above mean sea level, this is one of the highest observatory sites in the world and one of the best telescope locations in the country.\n<ul>\n<li>It joins The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/himalayan-chandra-telescope\/\" target=\"_blank\">Himalayan Chandra Telescope (HCT)<\/a>\u00a0the gamma-ray array telescope (HAGAR), and the imaging Cherenkov telescope (MACE) at this site.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>It was constructed through a partnership between the\u00a0<strong>Indian Institute of Astrophysics<\/strong>\u00a0(IIA) and the\u00a0<strong>Indian Institute of Technology Bombay<\/strong>\u00a0(IITB), with support from the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the Indo-US Science and Technology Forum.<\/li>\n<li><strong>GROWTH-India project<\/strong>\u00a0is part of an international network of observatories, known as the Global Relay of Observatories Watching Transients Happen (GROWTH).\n<ul>\n<li>It aims to provide continuous monitoring of interesting celestial events. The network&#8217;s collaborative approach ensures that observations are not interrupted by daylight, allowing for comprehensive data collection.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is an asteroid ?<\/h3>\n<p>An asteroid is a small, rocky object that orbits the Sun in our solar system.
