


{"id":25423,"date":"2024-07-28T11:40:10","date_gmt":"2024-07-28T06:10:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=25423"},"modified":"2025-04-07T17:50:37","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T12:20:37","slug":"integrated-disease-surveillance-programme","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/integrated-disease-surveillance-programme\/","title":{"rendered":"What is the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP)?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP):<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a <strong>decentralized<\/strong>, <strong>state-based surveillance programme<\/strong> in the country.<\/li>\n<li>It was launched with <strong>World Bank assistance<\/strong> in November <strong>2004 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare<\/strong>, Government of India.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Objectives<\/strong>: To strengthen\/<strong>maintain a decentralized <\/strong>laboratory-based<strong> IT enabled disease surveillance system for epidemic-prone diseases<\/strong> to monitor disease trends and to detect and <strong>respond to outbreaks in the early rising phase through<\/strong> trained <strong>Rapid Response Teams (RRTs).<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Programme Components:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Integration and decentralization of surveillance activities through the establishment of <strong>surveillance units at the Centre, State, and District levels.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Human Resource Development<\/strong>: <strong>Training of<\/strong> State <strong>Surveillance Officers<\/strong>, District Surveillance Officers, RRT, and other medical and paramedical staff on principles of disease surveillance.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Use of Information Communication Technology<\/strong> for collection, collation, compilation, analysis, and dissemination of data.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Strengthening<\/strong> of <strong>public health laboratories.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Inter sectoral coordination for zoonotic diseases<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Data Management:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Under IDSP, <strong>data is collected<\/strong> on epidemic-prone diseases on a <strong>weekly basis<\/strong> (Monday\u2013Sunday).<\/li>\n<li>The information is collected in<strong> three specified<\/strong> reporting <strong>formats, namely \u201cS\u201d(suspected cases), \u201cP\u201d (presumptive cases), <\/strong>and <strong>\u201cL\u201d (laboratory confirmed cases),<\/strong> filled <strong>by Health Workers<\/strong>, <strong>Clinicians,<\/strong> and <strong>Laboratory staff, respectively<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>IDSP receives disease outbreak reports from the States\/UTs on a weekly basis. <strong>Even NIL weekly reporting is mandated,<\/strong> and compilation of disease outbreaks\/alerts is done on a weekly basis.<\/li>\n<li>The weekly data <strong>gives information on the disease trendsand seasonality<\/strong> of diseases.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Whenever there is a rising trend<\/strong> of illnesses in any area, it is <strong>investigated by t<\/strong>he <strong>RRTs<\/strong> to diagnose and control the outbreak.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Data analysis and actions<\/strong> are being <strong>undertaken by<\/strong> respective <strong>State\/District Surveillance Units.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What are Zoonotic Diseases?<\/h3>\n<p>Zoonotic diseases are infections that are spread between people and animals. These infections are caused by germs, such as viruses, bacteria, parasites, and fungi.
