


{"id":25469,"date":"2024-07-31T07:24:13","date_gmt":"2024-07-31T01:54:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=25469"},"modified":"2025-04-07T18:11:48","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T12:41:48","slug":"national-metallurgist-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/national-metallurgist-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Vattezhuthu?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Vattezhuthu:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Vatteluttu<\/strong>, popularly known as Vattezhuthu, was a <strong>syllabic alphabet of south India<\/strong> (<strong>Tamil Nadu and Kerala<\/strong>) <strong>and Sri Lanka<\/strong> used for <strong>writing the Tamil and Malayalam<\/strong> languages.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>name Vatteluttu<\/strong> is thought to mean either <strong>&#8217;rounded script<\/strong>&#8216;, <strong>&#8216;northern script&#8217;,<\/strong> or <strong>&#8216;chiseled script&#8217;.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It first appeared in <strong>stone inscriptions <\/strong>in southern India <strong>dating<\/strong> from the <strong>4th century AD.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It <strong>probably developed from the Tamil-Brahmi script<\/strong>; a variant of the Brahmi script used to write Old Tamil between from about the 3rd century BC until the 1st century AD.<\/li>\n<li>Vatteluttu was <strong>used to write Tamil and Malayalam in Tamil Naduuntil<\/strong> the <strong>9th century.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>In Kerala<\/strong>, Vatteluttu <strong>continued <\/strong>to be used<strong> until the 15th century<\/strong>. It <strong>changed over time<\/strong> to <strong>become the Malayalam script<\/strong>, with some letters borrowed from the Grantha script.<\/li>\n<li>Vatteluttu <strong>also developed into<\/strong> the <strong>Koleluttu script<\/strong>, which <strong>was used, <\/strong>especially <strong>by Christians and Muslims, in Keralauntil<\/strong> the <strong>19th century.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is Brahmi?<\/h3>\n<p>The Brahmi Script is the earliest writing system developed in India after the Indus script.
