


{"id":2558,"date":"2023-02-02T03:11:03","date_gmt":"2023-02-01T21:41:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=2558"},"modified":"2025-03-25T22:32:12","modified_gmt":"2025-03-25T17:02:12","slug":"what-is-the-upper-bhadra-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/what-is-the-upper-bhadra-project\/","title":{"rendered":"What is the Upper Bhadra Project?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>About Upper Bhadra Project:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a major <strong>lift irrigation Scheme<\/strong> under implementation in the <strong>central region of Karnataka State.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Objectives<\/strong>:\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>To provide sustainable <strong>irrigation facility in khariff season.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It also proposes to <strong>recharge ground water tables<\/strong> and <strong>provide drinking water<\/strong> by filling 367 tanks with six tmcft water <strong>in drought-prone taluks.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Plan<\/strong>:<\/li>\n<li>It is planned to <strong>irrigate an extent of 2,25,515 hectares by micro irrigation<\/strong> in <strong>drought-prone districts<\/strong> of Chikkamagalur, Chitradurga, Tumkur and Davangere.<\/li>\n<li>It envisages <strong>lifting upto17.40 TMC of water<\/strong> in first stage <strong>from Tunga river to existing Bhadra reservoir<\/strong> and lifting 29.90 TMC of water in second stage <strong>from Bhadra reservoir<\/strong> to Tunnel near Ajjampura, in Tungabhadra sub-basin of Krishna basin.<\/li>\n<li>In 2022, Central government gave <strong>national project status<\/strong> to \u201cUpper Bhadra Project\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Tungabhadra River:<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a sacred river in southern India that <strong>flows through<\/strong> the states of <strong>Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Telengana.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>ancient name<\/strong> of the river was <strong>Pampa<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It is formed by the <strong>confluence of two rivers, the Tunga <\/strong>River and the <strong>Bhadra<\/strong> River.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Origin<\/strong>: Both Tunga &amp;
