{"id":25585,"date":"2024-08-04T06:19:43","date_gmt":"2024-08-04T00:49:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=25585"},"modified":"2025-04-07T19:02:11","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T13:32:11","slug":"price-monitoring-system-app","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/price-monitoring-system-app\/","title":{"rendered":"Price Monitoring System App"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Price Monitoring System App:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Price Monitoring Division (PMD) in the <strong>Department of Consumer Affairs<\/strong> is responsible for monitoring prices of selected essential commodities.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>To improve the quality of price data, the department launched a <strong>Mobile App<\/strong> in 2021 &#8211; the PMS App &#8211; for the reporting of <strong>daily prices<\/strong> by the price reporting centres.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Source of price data: Retail and wholesale prices<\/strong> of commodities from 550 centers are received daily from the State Civil Supplies Departments of the respective State Governments through Mobile App developed by the Department.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Total commodities monitored<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>At present the price is monitored for <strong>22 essential commodities<\/strong> (Rice, Wheat, Atta, Gram Dal, Tur (Arhar) Dal, Urad Dal , Moong Dal, Masur Dal, Sugar, Gur, Groundnut Oil, Mustard Oil, Vanaspati, Sunflower Oil, Soya Oil, Palm Oil, Tea, Milk, Potato, Onion, Tomato and Salt).<\/li>\n<li>The newly added <strong>16 items<\/strong> included are Bajra, Jowar, Ragi, Suji (wheat), Maida (wheat), Besan, Ghee, Butter, Brinjal, Egg, Black Pepper, Coriander, Cumin seed, Red chillies, Turmeric powder and Banana.<\/li>\n<li>The 38 commodities constitute close to 31% of the total CPI weights as against 26.5% of CPI weights captured by the 22 commodities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Significance:<\/strong> The price data monitored by the Department provides advance inputs for policy decision for the Government, RBI and analysts regarding the CPI inflation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is Wholesale Price Index (WPI)?<\/h3>\n<p>WPI measures the changes in the prices of goods sold and traded in bulk by wholesale businesses to other businesses.
