Collectively, they are often referred to as <strong>sugar substitutes,<\/strong> high-intensity sweeteners, nonnutritive sweeteners, or low-calorie sweeteners.<\/li>\n<li>Like other no-calorie sweeteners, sucralose is <strong>intensely sweet.<\/strong> It is about <strong>600 times sweeter than sugar.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>It <strong>can be used<\/strong> as an ingredient in <strong>any type of food or beverage<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Sucralose is <strong>exceptionally stable<\/strong>, so <strong>foods and beverages<\/strong> sweetened with sucralose <strong>stay sweet under a wide range of conditions.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Production<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>Sucralose is <strong>made from<\/strong> a <strong>process that begins with regular table sugar<\/strong> (sucrose); however, sucralose is not sugar.<\/li>\n<li>Three select hydroxyl groups on the sucrose molecule are replaced with three chlorine atoms.<\/li>\n<li>Sucralose\u2019s <strong>structure prevents enzymes<\/strong> in the digestive tract <strong>from breaking it down<\/strong>, which is an inherent part of its safety.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>After Consumption:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Most<\/strong> (about 85 percent) <strong>of consumed sucralose<\/strong> is <strong>not absorbed<\/strong> by the body <strong>and is excreted,<\/strong> unchanged, in the feces.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Of the small amount<\/strong> that is <strong>absorbed<\/strong> (about 15 percent), <strong>none is broken downfor energy<\/strong>\u2014therefore, sucralose <strong>does not provide any calories.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>All absorbed sucralose is<strong> excreted<\/strong> quickly <strong>in the urine.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h2><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is Body Mass Index (BMI)?<\/h2>\n<p>Body Mass Index (BMI) is a person\u2019s weight in kilograms divided by the square of their height in meters.
