{"id":25648,"date":"2025-11-07T02:20:02","date_gmt":"2025-11-06T20:50:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=25648"},"modified":"2025-11-10T16:17:32","modified_gmt":"2025-11-10T10:47:32","slug":"guidelines-for-organ-transport-in-india","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/guidelines-for-organ-transport-in-india\/","title":{"rendered":"Guidelines for Organ Transport in India"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Guidelines for Organ Transport in India:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Organ transportation is required when the organ donor and recipient are in different hospitals or cities.<\/li>\n<li>As per the new SOPs, in the case of air transportation, <strong>airlines<\/strong> carrying the organs <strong>can request the Air Traffic Control for<\/strong> aircraft\u2019s <strong>priority takeoff and landing<\/strong> and <strong>arrange front-row seats.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>They can also <strong>request priority reservations<\/strong> and provisions for <strong>late check-in<\/strong> for medical personnel transporting organs.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>source airport<\/strong> will <strong>notify the destination airport to facilitate the arrival <\/strong>process.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>flight captain<\/strong> may <strong>announce in flight<\/strong> that human <strong>organs are being transported.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Arrangements for carrying the organ box on trolleys from<\/strong> the <strong>aircraft to the ambulance<\/strong> post arrival can also be made by the airport and airline staff.<\/li>\n<li>Additionally, when the ambulance is only permitted up to the runway, the <strong>airline crew can guide and assist<\/strong> the <strong>accompanying medical personnel<\/strong> in carrying the organ box directly from the aircraft via the staircase to the waiting ambulance on the runway.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Green corridor at airports:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The SOPs specify that <strong>airport officials should establish a \u201cgreen corridor\u201d<\/strong> and <strong>provide a trolley for transporting <\/strong>the<strong> organ box from<\/strong> the <strong>ambulance to the aircraft<\/strong> at the departure airport and vice versa at the destination airport.<\/li>\n<li>They also say that the green corridor may be <strong>provided on<\/strong> the <strong>request of specific authorities or agencies.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sensitising traffic police:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>The SOPs also emphasize the importance of <strong>sensitising state traffic police<\/strong> across various states about organ donation and transplant.<\/li>\n<li>They highlight the crucial role of traffic police in expediting organ transport through the creation of green corridors.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Organ transportation via Metro:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Metro Traffic Control must give priority transit for<\/strong> the <strong>metro carrying<\/strong> the live human <strong>organs<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>metro security staff should escort the clinical team<\/strong> carrying the organ box <strong>up to their boarding<\/strong> at the metro station.<\/li>\n<li>Additionally, <strong>a metro official should accompany the clinical teamon the metro<\/strong> and secure the necessary area for the organ box.<\/li>\n<li>They add that the <strong>Security Hold Area (SHA) should be notified<\/strong> by metro security regarding the transport of live human organs to avoid any delay during security checks.<\/li>\n<li>Additionally, the relevant <strong>metro personnel at<\/strong> the <strong>destination should be informed<\/strong> to ensure proper arrangements for carrying the organs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Organ box<\/strong> should be <strong>kept incorrect position and orientation<\/strong> i.e. <strong>upright straightvertical at 90 degrees to the surface during transport<\/strong>, and <strong>label of &#8220;handle with care&#8221;<\/strong> can be put on the organ box.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The organ box <strong>should be secured with a seat belt<\/strong> for greater safety.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO)?<\/h3>\n<p>NOTTO is a national level organization set up under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
