{"id":2570,"date":"2026-06-06T12:20:03","date_gmt":"2026-06-06T06:50:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=2570"},"modified":"2026-06-06T13:06:18","modified_gmt":"2026-06-06T07:36:18","slug":"ekalavya-model-residential-schools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ekalavya-model-residential-schools\/","title":{"rendered":"Eklavya Model Residential Schools"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Eklavya Model Residential Schools Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Learning Links Foundation (LLF) to implement the Amazon Future Engineer (AFE) programme across Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRSs) in the country.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Eklavya Model Residential Schools<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a <\/span><b>flagship intervention<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of <\/span><b>the Ministry of Tribal Affairs launched in 1998.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It aims to provide <\/span><b>quality residential education<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to Scheduled Tribes students <\/span><b>from Class 6th to 12th in remote areas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to enable them to access the best opportunities in education and to bring them at par with the general population.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The programme was revamped <\/span><b>during the year 2018-19<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to expand the geographical outreach and enhance the quality of facilities.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">EMRSs to be set up in every block with more than <\/span><b>50% ST population<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and at <\/span><b>least 20,000 tribal persons.\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Governance:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The <\/span><b>National Education Society for Tribal Students<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (NESTS), an autonomous organization, has been set up under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs to establish and <\/span><b>manage EMRS across the country.<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><b>Features of Eklavya Model Residential Schools<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">EMRSs are co-educational <\/span><b>residential schools from Class VI to XII.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Eklavya schools will <\/span><b>be on par with Navodaya Vidyalayas<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and will have special facilities for preserving local art and culture besides providing training in sports and skill development.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Infrastructure:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The school infrastructure will include classroom, administrative block, hostels, playground.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CBSE curriculum is followed in these schools, and education is completely free.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Each school has a capacity of 480 students with an <\/span><b>equal number of seats for boys and girls.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Non-ST students can be admitted<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in these schools on <\/span><b>seats up to 10%<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of the total seats.
