{"id":25707,"date":"2024-08-09T05:20:47","date_gmt":"2024-08-08T23:50:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=25707"},"modified":"2025-04-07T19:55:57","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T14:25:57","slug":"homo-floresiensis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/homo-floresiensis\/","title":{"rendered":"Homo floresiensis"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Homo floresiensis:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>They are a species of <strong>small archaic human<\/strong> that inhabited the <strong>Indonesian island of Flores<\/strong> around 60,000 years ago.<\/li>\n<li>They are nicknamed as \u2018Hobbit\u2019 and have so far only been found on the Island of Flores.<\/li>\n<li>The fossils of H. floresiensis date to between <strong>about 100,000 and 60,000 years<\/strong> ago, and stone tools made by this species date to between about 190,000 and 50,000 years old.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li><strong>Features:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Appearance:<\/strong> H. floresiensis individuals stood approximately <strong>3 feet 6 inches tall,<\/strong> had tiny brains, large teeth for their small size, shrugged-forward shoulders, no chins, receding foreheads, and relatively large feet due to their short legs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tools used:<\/strong> Despite their small body and brain size, they made and <strong>used stone tools, hunted small elephants and large rodents<\/strong>, coped with predators such as giant Komodo dragons, and may have used fire.<\/li>\n<li>The diminutive stature and small brain of them may have resulted from <strong>island dwarfism (<\/strong>an evolutionary process that results from long-term isolation on a small island with limited food resources and a lack of predators).<\/li>\n<li>The smallest known species of Homo and Stegodon elephant are both found on the island of Flores, Indonesia.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is Dwarfism?<\/h3>\n<p>It refers to a group of conditions characterised by shorter than normal skeletal growth.
