{"id":25726,"date":"2024-08-10T04:46:01","date_gmt":"2024-08-09T23:16:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=25726"},"modified":"2025-04-07T20:04:31","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T14:34:31","slug":"pinaka-mk3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/pinaka-mk3\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Pinaka-MK3?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>What is Pinaka?<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Pinaka is a <strong>Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher<\/strong> (MBRL).<\/li>\n<li>It is <strong>designed by<\/strong> the Armament Research and Development Establishment (ARDE), a laboratory of the DRDO.<\/li>\n<li>It <strong>delivers lethal and responsive fire against<\/strong> a variety of <strong>area targets<\/strong>, such as exposed enemy troops, armoured and soft-skin vehicles, communication centres, air terminal complexes, and fuel and ammunition dumps.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Features:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It consists of a <strong>multi-tube launcher vehicle<\/strong>, a <strong>replenishment-cum-loader vehicle<\/strong>, a <strong>replenishment vehicle<\/strong>, and a <strong>command post vehicle<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>rocket launcher has two pods<\/strong> containing <strong>six rockets each<\/strong> and can neutralise an area of 700 \u00d7 500 square metres within 48 seconds.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The 214mm Pinaka rocket features a payload of 100 kilograms (220 pounds), with the option of a <strong>range of warheads<\/strong> such as anti-tank mines and blast-cum-pre-fragmented high explosives.<\/li>\n<li>The launcher system is supported on four hydraulically actuated outriggers at the time of firing.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The system is <strong>mounted on a Tatra truck for mobility.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>India already has <strong>several versions<\/strong> of the Pinaka rocket launcher system.\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>range of<\/strong> the <strong>Pinaka Mk-1 is 48 kilometers<\/strong>, the <strong>Pinaka Mk-I Enhanced<\/strong> has a range of <strong>60 kilometres<\/strong> and the <strong>Pinaka Mk-II<\/strong> has a range of <strong>90 kilometer.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>About Pinaka-MK3:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>advanced version<\/strong> follows in the footsteps of the original Pinaka system.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/quest-upsc-notes\/defence-research-and-development-organisation-drdo\/\" target=\"_blank\">DRDO<\/a> is working on <strong>two variants<\/strong> of the Pinaka-MK3 rocket launcher.\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>first variant<\/strong> is expected to have a <strong>range of 120 kilometres<\/strong> or even more.<\/li>\n<li>The range of the <strong>subsequent variants<\/strong> will be <strong>300 kilometers.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>speed<\/strong> of the Pinaka-MK3 is <strong>5757.70 kilometres per hour<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It has the <strong>capability to attack distant enemies and air attacks.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>It can <strong>operate in any weather,<\/strong> making it an all-weather equipment.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)?<\/h3>\n<p>DRDO is the R&amp;D wing of Ministry of Defence, Govt of India, with a vision to empower India with cutting-edge defence technologies and a mission to achieve self-reliance in critical defence technologies and systems, while equipping our armed forces with state-of-the-art weapon systems and equipment in accordance with requirements laid down by the three Services.
