{"id":25764,"date":"2024-08-12T03:40:42","date_gmt":"2024-08-11T22:10:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=25764"},"modified":"2025-04-07T21:00:48","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T15:30:48","slug":"omkareshwar-floating-solar-project","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/omkareshwar-floating-solar-project\/","title":{"rendered":"Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Omkareshwar Floating Solar Project:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is located at <strong>Omkareshwar<\/strong> in District Khandwa, <strong>Madhya Pradesh.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The floating power plant was developed on <strong>the backwaters of Omkareshwar dam<\/strong> (it is a <strong>gravity dam on<\/strong> the <strong>Narmada River<\/strong>).<\/li>\n<li>It is the <strong>biggest solar park in India<\/strong> and the <strong>largest floating solar project in central<\/strong> and <strong>north India, <\/strong>generating <strong>90 MW<\/strong> energy.<\/li>\n<li>This project was <strong>developed under<\/strong> the Union <strong>Ministry of Renewable Energy.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The project is <strong>executed by SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL),<\/strong> a wholly owned subsidiary of SJVN, a <strong>joint venture<\/strong> between the <strong>Government of India<\/strong> and the <strong>Government of Himachal Pradesh.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Project Cost: Rs. 646 crores<\/li>\n<li>It is projected to generate 196.5 million units of electricity in its initial year of operation and a cumulative 4,629.3 million units over 25 years.<\/li>\n<li>On commissioning, it will <strong>reduce<\/strong> 2.3 lakh tons of <strong>carbon emissions<\/strong> and will significantly contribute to the Government of India\u2019s mission of net zero carbon emissions by 2070.\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>The project will also <strong>help in water conservation by reducing water evaporation.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The project has been de<strong>veloped through competitive tariff bidding on Build Own and Operate basis for 25 years <\/strong>at a rate of Rs 3.26 per unit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What is a gravity dam?<\/h3>\n<p>A gravity dam is a type of dam that relies on its own weight and mass to resist the horizontal pressure of water, thereby preventing the flow of water.
