{"id":25772,"date":"2024-08-12T10:02:44","date_gmt":"2024-08-12T04:32:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=25772"},"modified":"2025-04-07T21:04:11","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T15:34:11","slug":"silicosis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/silicosis\/","title":{"rendered":"What is Silicosis?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Silicosis:\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is a respiratory disease which causes a <strong>hardening of the lungs.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Causes:<\/strong> It is caused <strong>by silica dust or silica crystals<\/strong>, which are found in soil, sand, concrete, mortar, granite and artificial stone.<\/li>\n<li>It is common <strong>in construction, mining, oil and gas extraction<\/strong>, kitchen engineering, dentistry, pottery and sculpting.<\/li>\n<li>People working in these industries are often exposed to silica every day, and are at higher risk of developing silicosis as a result.<\/li>\n<li>It can take a long time for silicosis to develop \u2014 typically 10 to 20 years of occupational exposure to silica dust.<\/li>\n<li>The main <strong>symptoms of silicosis<\/strong> are: a persistent cough, persistent shortness of breath weakness and tiredness etc.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Types of Silicosis<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Acute Silicosis:<\/strong> The symptoms of acute silicosis are cough, weight loss, and fatigue within a few weeks or years of exposure to inhaled silica.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Accelerated Silicosis<\/strong>: It occurs within 10 years of high-level exposure to the inhaled silica.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Chronic Silicosis: <\/strong>It occurs from 10 to 30 years after exposure and affects upper lungs and sometimes causes extensive scarring<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Silicosis is a progressive disease and <strong>has no cure.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is Pulmonary fibrosis?<\/h3>\n<p>It is a lung disease that occurs when lung tissue becomes damaged and scarred. This thickened, stiff tissue makes it harder for the lungs to work properly. Pulmonary fibrosis worsens over time.
