


{"id":25791,"date":"2024-08-13T07:21:11","date_gmt":"2024-08-13T01:51:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=25791"},"modified":"2025-04-07T21:12:40","modified_gmt":"2025-04-07T15:42:40","slug":"gotipua-dance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/gotipua-dance\/","title":{"rendered":"Gotipua Dance"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About Gotipua Dance:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is the majestic <strong>folk dance of Orissa which is <\/strong>the precursor to the classical <strong>Odissi dance form.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In the Odisha language, <strong>\u201cGoti\u201d<\/strong> means \u201c<strong>single<\/strong>\u201d and \u201c<strong>Pua\u201d<\/strong> means \u201c<strong>boy\u201d.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>In this children are trained in singing, dancing, yoga, and acrobatics within gurukuls or akhadas .<\/li>\n<li>They dress as girls and perform at temple festivals, social gatherings, and religious ceremonies.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Origin:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>In ancient times, the <strong>temples of Orissa<\/strong> had female dancers called \u201c<strong>Devadasi or Mahari<\/strong> (in Orissa)\u201d who were devoted to Lord Jagannath.<\/li>\n<li>During the time of <strong>Bhoi king Rama Chandra Dev<\/strong> with the decline of the Mahari dancers, the class of these boy dancers came into existence in Orissa, to carry out the tradition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>In its present form, the Gotipua Dance is more precise and systematic in its conception.\n<ul>\n<li>Its performance includes <strong>Vandana<\/strong> (prayer to God, or a guru), <strong>Abhinaya<\/strong> (the enactment of a song) and <strong>Bandha Nritya<\/strong> (rhythms of acrobatic postures)<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bandha Nritya<\/strong> is a demonstration of physical prowess requiring great agility and flexibility. Preferably performed in adolescence, with age, this dance form becomes increasingly difficult to execute.<\/li>\n<li>The dancers make <strong>extensive use<\/strong> of their <strong>hands and feet<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Musical accompaniment to the Gotipua Dance is provided by the <strong>mardala <\/strong>(a pakhawaj), <strong>gini (<\/strong>small cymbals), <strong>harmonium, violin and flute<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1: What is Folk arts?<\/h3>\n<p>It reflects the cultural life of a community.
