{"id":25807,"date":"2025-10-27T07:39:14","date_gmt":"2025-10-27T02:09:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=25807"},"modified":"2025-10-29T13:25:21","modified_gmt":"2025-10-29T07:55:21","slug":"ins-arighat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ins-arighat\/","title":{"rendered":"What is INS Arighat?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>About INS Arighat:<\/strong><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>It is India\u2019s <strong>second indigenously built nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN),following<\/strong> India&#8217;s first nuclear submarine, <a href=\"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/ins-arihant\/\" target=\"_blank\">INS Arihant<\/a><strong>,<\/strong> commissioned in 2018.<\/li>\n<li>It was constructed at the <strong>Indian Navy&#8217;s Ship Building Centre (SBC) in Visakhapatnam<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It represents a <strong>critical component of India&#8217;s nuclear triad<\/strong>, enabling the nation to launch nuclear missiles from land, air, and sea.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Features:<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>It measures 111.6 meters in length, has a beam of 11 meters, a draught of 9.5 meters, and a <strong>displacement of 6,000 tonnes<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It will have one seven-blade propeller<strong> powered by a pressurised water reactor<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It can achieve a maximum speed of 12\u201315 knots (22\u201328 km\/h) when on surface and 24 knots (44 km\/h) when submerged.<\/li>\n<li>It can <strong>carry up to four nuclear-capable K-4 SLBMs<\/strong> (Submarine Launched ballistic Missile) with a <strong>range of over 3500 kilometers<\/strong> or <strong>twelve<\/strong> conventional warhead <strong>K-15 SLBMs with a range<\/strong> of about <strong>750 kilometers.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>The <strong>K-15can also carry<\/strong> a <strong>strategic nuclear warhead<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>It also carries <strong>torpedoes and mine<\/strong>s.<\/li>\n<li>Additional safety measures include two standby auxiliary engines and a retractable thruster for emergency power and mobility.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Q1. What are Ballistic Missiles?<\/h3>\n<p>A ballistic missile is a rocket-propelled, self-guided strategic-weapons system that follows a ballistic trajectory to deliver a payload from its launch site to a predetermined target. They are powered initially by a rocket or series of rockets in stages, but then follow an unpowered trajectory that arches upwards before descending to reach its intended target.
