When they\u2019re imbalanced, it <strong>changes how they function in your body.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Dysbiosis <strong>typically occurs when<\/strong> the <strong>bacteria in your gastrointestinal (GI) tract<\/strong> \u2014 which includes your stomach and intestines \u2014 <strong>become unbalanced<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cause<\/strong>: It can arise from <strong>infections, antibiotic use<\/strong>, or some aspects of a <strong>person\u2019s diet.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>How does dysbiosis affect us?<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>In any microbiome, a lack of diversity and balance can <strong>pave the way for one type of microorganism to take over.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Dysbiosis <strong>makes us more vulnerable to infections<\/strong> from germs living inside and outside of our bodies.<\/li>\n<li>It can also <strong>interfere with other important services<\/strong> that our <strong>microbiomes normally provide for us.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Symptoms<\/strong>: Though it is <strong>sometimes asymptomatic,<\/strong> dysbiosis <strong>may manifest in abdominal pain, bloating<\/strong>, and <strong>vomiting<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li>Dysbiosis is <strong>also common on your skin<\/strong>. It can be <strong>caused by exposure to harmful bacteria or<\/strong> an <strong>overgrowth of<\/strong> a <strong>single type of bacteria.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Treatment<\/strong>:\n<ul>\n<li>The main premise of treatment is to increase gut microbiome biodiversity. Scientists have developed several ways of treating dysbiosis, including:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Fecal microbiota transplantation<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Probiotic therapy<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Microbial metabolic pathway therapy<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>If an underlying disease<\/strong> or condition <strong>causes it,<\/strong> you\u2019ll <strong>need specific treatment<\/strong> for that condition.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong>Q1<\/strong>: What are antibiotics?<\/h3>\n<p>Antibiotics are medicines that fight bacterial infections in people and animals.
