It\u2019s thought to be the result of a\u00a0<strong>mix of genetic, hormonal, and environmental factors.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Lupus is much more\u00a0<strong>common among women<\/strong>\u00a0than men.<\/li>\n<li>There are\u00a0<strong>several kinds<\/strong>\u00a0of lupus:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE)<\/strong>\u00a0is the\u00a0<strong>most common<\/strong>\u00a0type. It can be mild or severe and can affect many parts of the body. SLE accounts for\u00a0<strong>70% of lupus cases.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Discoid lupus<\/strong>\u00a0causes a red rash that doesn&#8217;t go away.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Subacute cutaneous lupus\u00a0<\/strong>causes sores after being out in the sun.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Drug-induced lupus<\/strong>\u00a0is caused by certain medicines. It usually goes away when you stop taking the medicine.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Neonatal lupus,<\/strong>\u00a0which is rare, affects newborns.
