{"id":25842,"date":"2026-05-17T14:18:10","date_gmt":"2026-05-17T08:48:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/?p=25842"},"modified":"2026-05-18T17:02:51","modified_gmt":"2026-05-18T11:32:51","slug":"captagon","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vajiramandravi.com\/current-affairs\/captagon\/","title":{"rendered":"Captagon"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><b>Captagon Latest News<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Recently, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), under Operation RAGEPILL, has successfully unearthed an international drug syndicate involved in the trafficking of Captagon.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>About Captagon<\/b><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a highly <\/span><b>addictive amphetamine-type drug.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The original Captagon <\/span><b>contained fenetylline<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a synthetic drug of the phenethylamine family to which amphetamine also belongs.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is a synthetic drug which was <\/span><b>originally manufactured in Germany<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in the 1960s and 1970s where it was intended to <\/span><b>treat attention deficit disorders.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was commercially sold in several countries until the 1980s and was banned due to fears of its highly addictive nature.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>commonly known as \u201cpoor man\u2019s cocaine,\u201d<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> has emerged as the drug of choice among young adults throughout the Middle East and North Africa.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It contains fenethylline, a synthetic <\/span><b>amphetamine, caffeine, and other stimulants.<\/b>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"2\"><b>Fenethylline is metabolized<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> by the body into two molecules: <\/span><b>amphetamine<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>theophylline,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> both of which are stimulants.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was made illegal in 1986 in most countries and discontinued in medical markets.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It was later placed under <\/span><b>Schedule II of the UN Convention on Psychotropic Substances.<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is <\/span><b>considered highly addictive and has become<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> a major source of illegal trafficking and funding in conflict-hit regions.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Source: <\/b><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pib.gov.in\/PressReleasePage.aspx?PRID=2261701&amp;reg=3&amp;lang=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">PIB<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Captagon is a highly addictive synthetic amphetamine-type drug originally developed in Germany to treat attention deficit disorders.
